WorldServer Database Size Estimation Tool

Idiom designed WorldServer to handle extremely large amounts of data. However, it is essential to estimate the amount of content a WorldServer installation will be required to handle and to provide adequate hardware including storage capacity. Estimation of storage requirements depends on the type of data to be translated, the number of target languages supported, and many other factors.

WorldServer segments all content into translatable and non-translatable snippets. WorldServer then stores the translatable data in the application database. The size directly corresponds to the size of the document and the amount of translatable content it contains. This tool assumes content based on markup language formats such as HTML and XML. For binary data formats like Microsoft Word or PowerPoint, the space factor is much smaller because most of the data is non-translatable and does not get loaded into the WorldServer database.*
