Like Chase I am writing my last conference blog entry from San Diego airport. Bill Rabkin, WorldSummit Chair, had let us all go home. The very stylish stands of our partner pavilion have all been packed up and taken away. TOIN have run out of the Sushi they were distributing during breaks.
There were many highlights of the conference. I arrived at Eric Silberstein’s Idiom Vision presentation when it had just started. I was expecting him to begin showing PowerPoint slides at any stage. He didn’t. He gave a very exciting vision statement, talking to a room of 200 people as if he was chatting to a small circle of friends. A lot of exciting ideas were mentioned here. The starting point for the new functionality he talked about always came from a business requirement of our customers or partners.
One of our customers once suggested that the next version of WorldServer should have fewer Erics. There were four of them at the conference and all were Idiom employees. Eric Richard ended the conference by talking about what his team are working on after WorldServer 9. For me, the most exciting of these features is the GMS to GMS functionality which he demonstrated.
The conference had a lot of excitement and energy. Many of the delegates, some with great experience in the language industry, said they thought Idiom was a company which was doing all the right things. This was good to hear. It was great that so many people took time out of their schedule to come to San Diego. It was a good conference. I think Bill, Kim and Jenny worked extremely hard to make it a great success. See you at the next WorldSummit.
